FEAST OF ST BEDE - MAY 25

Bede is one of the few saints honoured as such even during his lifetime. His writings were filled with such faith and learning that even while he was still alive, a Church council ordered them to be read publicly in the churches.

At an early age Bede entered the Monastery of St. Paul, Jarrow.  Besides the many books that he copied, he composed 45 of his own, including 30 commentaries on books of the Bible.  Bede died in 735 praying his favourite prayer: “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As in the beginning, so now, and forever.”

HOSPITALITY AND FEAST OF ST BEDE

There will be hospitality following all Masses this weekend, May 20 and 21.  Please come along to meet old friends and new.  We will also be celebrating the Feast of St Bede!

MASS COUNT

The Vicar-General invites us to keep an up-to date picture of Mass attendance in the Archdiocese.  This annual count taken in May is important for the pastoral planning activities of the Archdiocese and allows for comparison to be made across the years

PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2017

Our Stewardship Program concludes this week as we focus on how Our Parish Community supports generously.

This weekend we welcome Fr Martin Dixon, Parish Priest of St Joan of Arc Parish in Brighton and Fr Mark Reynolds, Parish Priest of Our Holy Redeemer Parish in Surrey Hills.  Fr Martin and Fr Mark will be with us for all Masses over the weekend.  They will invite us to make a meaningful financial commitment to support our parish – and emphasise the need to plan and budget for it as a priority in our lives.

You may have already completed your pledge on the form available in the Program brochure and brought it with you today.  If so, simply place it in the basket when called to do so.  If not, you will have the opportunity to complete a pledge card at Mass.  By completing and returning your pledge this weekend you will assist in keeping the follow-up work of our Program Leadership Team to a minimum.

Your completed Time and Talent Sheets will also be collected at all Masses this weekend.  Please note that the Parish Office will confirm your offer to join/re-join our groups and ministries and where appropriate new rosters will be forwarded in the coming weeks.  Additional Time & Talent Sheets are available at the back of the church.

Stephen Littleton and Tony Biviano from the Parish Development Office of the Archdiocese and members of the Program Leadership Team will be available at all Mases this weekend to assist with any queries.  Thank you for your generous support of our parish.

 TIME AND TALENT SHEET

There has been an omission in the Time and Talent Sheet. An important ministry in our parish is the service of providing transport to Mass for those no longer able to make their own way to Church.  If you are able to help with this ministry please just note it on the Time and Talent Sheet or contact the Parish office and leave your name with us.

DISTRIBUTION MEETING

Parishioners who have generously volunteered to help with follow-up are reminded of the Distribution Meeting on Thursday June 3 at 7.30pm in the Jarrow Room (Note change of date).  If you have not yet volunteered and would like to help your support will be very much appreciated.

CHILD SAFETY UPDATE

In response to the Royal Commission and impending recommendations, the Parish, under the direction and in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Melbourne, is finalising the following polices and procedures

·         Safety Policy for Children and Other Vulnerable People

·         Reporting Process

These policies will be made available in July with further information about the appointment of a Professional Standards Co-ordinator and training for all staff, volunteers and interested others whose role potentially involves contact with children and other vulnerable people.
